There is a surprise turn of events and an ending that leaves you feeling that all is well. We often treat the book of Esther as simply a “good story” often missing the deeper message of this wonderful narrative.

We spoke about William Cowper (1731 – 1800) in the first sermon from the book of Esther, “When God Seems Silent”. William Cowper was an English poet and hymn writer. His life was characterized by great struggles with depression. Despite the fact that his life was filled with suffering and depression, he wrote hymns that still impact us today.
