Advent is a season of waiting, expectation, and preparation.

We’re used to having things fast and we become frustrated when everything is delayed. Advent slows us down. It trains us to wait with hope, to long for what God has promised, and to prepare our hearts for the coming King.

During Advent we look back to the birth of Jesus and we also look forward to His return. We live in the tension of already and not yet, as a people who know the promises and salvation of God and yet still walk through wilderness places on our way to the Promised Land.

This year we’re “Walking In The Wilderness”

We'll join God’s people in the wilderness in Exodus, seeing and experiencing how the Lord hears, rescues, provides, guides, and remains faithful. Each week, we’ll see how their story points us to Jesus, the ultimate rescuer and the greatest rescue mission, and how it prepares our hearts to celebrate His coming at Christmas.

To help us, we have made simple advent blocks. These are a simple visual tool that pairs with our church-wide advent devotional. Each block has an icon taken from the Exodus story: tears, bricks, the burning bush, sandals on holy ground, manna, water from the rock, and many more. These symbols will appear each day in the devotional, helping lead us in our waiting, through the wilderness to Christ.

Whether you’re doing this as a household, with friends, or on your own, these blocks are meant to give you a daily reminder: We are God people, shaped by God’s promises, led by God’s presence, and He will bring us home!
